Jannemieke Keener
Jannemieke started her company, Keener Communications, Inc. in Richmond, VA, in 1985 as a daytime answering service. She sat there for 6 weeks with no clients, then one, then 2, and the rest is history. For equipment, she selected the Startel 1050, which consisted of 2 operator consoles. Next, she upgraded to the 2050, which had 2 op consoles and 2 screens, each of which displayed the 4 answer phrases. Messages were still taken by hand.
In 1989, she went “paperless” with the 2700, then came the 5700, the CMC, and in 2011, the Soft Switch. The Soft Switch is actually co-located at a local phone company, and the only equipment in her telephone room are Patch Panels.
Jannemieke has been a member of SNUG since 1997, and served on the SNUG board for several years. She has also served on the ATSI Board and the ASTAA board, and her staff has won the ATSI & CAM-X Awards of Excellence 11 consecutive times.
